Benefits of Pilates:
- Abdominal strength – based on the principles of Joseph Pilates, the exercises develop a strong “core” or center of body. The core consists of the deep abdominal muscles along with the muscles closest to the spine. Pilates exercises emphasize core control, integrating the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle.
- Flexibility, increased range of motion, balance – a body with balanced strength is less likely to be injured. Pilates produces shortening and lengthening muscle contractions. This elongates and strengthens, developing muscle elasticity and joint mobility
- Coordination, correct posture and alignment – Pilates exercises train several muscle groups together in smooth, continuous movements. By developing proper technique, you can actually re-train your body to move in safer, more efficient patters of motion – invaluable for injury recovery, sports performance, good posture and optimal health
- Streamlined body – no muscle group is over trained or under trained. The entire body is evenly conditioned. The entire musculature is evenly balanced, conditioned, stretched and strengthened.
- Body awareness – the nature of these exercises neutralizes certain areas of the body while working other areas. Pilates gets your mind in tune with your body. You can become acutely aware of how your body feels, where it is in space, and how to control its movements.
